Catholic Family Services Bureau offers a variety of preventative education programs which help to address isssues before they reach a crisis situation. Programs are designed to provide individuals and families with opportunities to enhance interpersonal skills needed in the home and in the workplace. Programs are facilitated by professionals and experienced instructors and delivered in the comfortable environment of Catholic Family Services Bureau, in the workplace or in community centres.

SIX SESSIONS FILLED WITH PERTINENT INFORMATION AND LIVELY DISCUSSION TO HELP YOU:

24-hour course offered over an 8-week period, designed to improve communication skills.


The program is designed to enable parents:

  • to acquire parenting skills
  • to understand the ages and stages of development in children
  • to develop a more positive image of themselves as parents

Delivered in 5 two-hour sessions, the course is designed to enable participants:

  • to learn to assign priorities among the competing demands of family, professional and personal life.
  • to understand how balance in one's life enables one to handle the stress of caregiving.
  • to gain some caregiver tips and insights into available community services.

Delivered in 5 two-hour sessions or over a weekend, the course is designed to assist couples:

  • to explore the essential elements of marriage.
  • to dispel myths about what a good marriage looks like.
  • to understand how self image and family of origin influence marriage.
  • to appreciate their own individuality and that of their partner.
  • to learn communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques.

(Y.E.T.) is a special program which gives you a chance to talk about what is bothering you.
It can help you understand your feelings and what to do about the ones that get you into trouble.
You can learn how to handle your anxieties and problems without resorting to vandalism or violence, escaping through drugs, alcohol... or dropping out. This 14 hour course is offered over a 7 week period.



A 30-hour course offered over a 10-week period.
You can learn more positive methods of self-expression, how to handle resistance from others, resolve relationship conflicts, set goals and take effective action to contol your life.

Delivered in 4 two-hour sessions the course uses the following mediums to assist participants in handling stress:

  • Stories - This enjoyable and effective learning tool will be used extensively.
  • Journaling - Writing as a way of accessing our inner selves will be explored.
  • Meditation - A variety of ways to still and quiet ourselves will be introduced.
  • Play - The importance of laughter and having fun will be emphasized.

  • to recognize how thinking patterns influence self esteem.
  • to develop a healthy and balanced view of self.
  • to learn how to create a positive and affirming self image.
