Courses | Workshops & Presentations
 

Catholic Family Services Bureau staff have created a series of brief presentations addressing topics that are relevant to the concerns of everyday living. These workshops are designed to be given in one or two-hour sessions. They can be given as part of a workplace learning program or as an educational component to a community, school or church based group. Each workshop includes: a) an introduction to the topic; b) structured learning activities; and c) opportunities for input from participants.

Good communication skills enhance a couple's ability to maintain a strong long term relationship. This workshop will enhance your ability to make joint decisions. Learn how to share more of your life together.

This workshop focuses on providing teens with the tools they need to become self-confident, responsible adults. An overview of parenting styles is presented as well as an introduction to effective communication techniques.

Television is here to stay. Whether its influence on our children is positive or negative often depends upon how much they are watching, what they are watching and how they are watching. This workshop considers some proactive approaches to television viewing. Issues addressed include TV violence, advertising, stereotyping and values.

Because our values and expectations sometimes differ, disagreements are a normal part of any relationship. These conflicts can be resolved more readily when we employ the ground rules for conflict resolution. Learn to recognize when forces such as contempt, defensiveness and criticism are at work. Learn how to create a positive and validating atmosphere in your relationship.

This workshop considers how self esteem evolves in children and outlines factors which encourage or discourage its development. Through presentations, role plays, exercises and discussion, participants are given insights into how self esteem can be influenced and enhanced.
